Question & Answer Session on Nose Job

1. Are there any side effects after rhinoplasty?
This highly depends on the material used for rhinoplasty. If autologous tissues such as rib cartilage, septal cartilage, or ear cartilage was used, it is very rare to have side effects. For foreign implants, there may be complications afterwards. However, no one can never be sure when the complication could happen with foreign implant as every each individual has different body condition.
2. How long does the swelling take to subside?
The immediate swelling will subside within 2-3 weeks and the final swelling will slowly subside within 3-6 months depending on the patient’s condition and the different method of surgeries. The full recovery may take up to 1 year.
3. Will my eyes look close to each other after rhinoplasty?
It is normal for the entire face to swell up after the surgery which can make your eyes look close to each other. This is temporary condition so you will look back to normal when the nose swelling subsides.
4. Is it possible to get other facial surgeries (such as eyelid surgery or facial contouring) with rhinoplasty at the same time?
Yes, it is possible to get multiple facial surgeries done on the same day.
5. What is the difference between silicone implant and autologous tissue graft rhinoplasty?
There is always a risk to all surgeries. However, using your own material can minimize the risk of the side effects which can be caused by foreign implants. Also silicone implant rhinoplasty can only augment the bridge area whereas for autologous tissue graft rhinoplasty can lengthen the tip and fix nose structure.
6. What is the limitation for flat or thick skin nose?
Sometimes there is a limitation to how much the skin can be stretched. The result varies by different method and nose condition of the patient as well. The skin cannot be changed from thick to thin skin. However, it is possible to remove some of excess soft tissue and make the structure of nose so it looks higher and have more shape.
7. What kind of anesthesia is used for rhinoplasty?
Either IV Sedation or General Anesthesia is used in our clinic for rhinoplasty.
8. Can I wear glasses after the surgery?
Patient should avoid wearing glasses for 2-3 months as the pressure may affect the shape of the nose during the recovery period.
If you get your surgery done without correcting the deviated septum, the result would look more deviated. Our doctors correct the septal deviation when performing rhinoplasty so i tis is effective in both cosmetic and functional terms.
10. Would I have dramatic change with my look after the surgery?
The nose is located in the center of the face, so the shape of the nose can greatly improve your appearance.
11. In what occasion rib cartilage graft rhinoplasty is necessary?
Rib cartilage is recommended for both primary and revision cases. When the patient has short, small nose with not much structure, rib cartilage is recommended rather than using silicone implant. Moreover, if the patient has done several revisions with foreign implants, rib cartilage would be the best choice. Rib cartilage graft rhinoplasty is recommended to adult patient who wish to fix the shape of nose after cleft lip correction.
